Finding amplitude

Find the amplitude of the functions y = sin x and y = 2 sin x.

Verified Solution

For y = sin x, the maximum y-coordinate is 1 and the minimum is -1. So the amplitude is

$\left|\frac{1}{2}[1-(-1)]\right|=1$

For y = 2 sin x, the maximum y-coordinate is 2 and the minimum is -2. So the amplitude is

$\left|\frac{1}{2}[2-(-2)]\right|=2$
