Redrawing the network with the standard battery symbol results in the network in Fig. 5.63. Applying the voltage divider rule gives

V_1=\frac{R_1E}{R_1+R_2}=\frac{(4\Omega )(24V)}{4\Omega +2\Omega } =16V

 

V_2=\frac{R_2E}{R_1+R_2}=\frac{(2\Omega )(24V)}{4\Omega +2\Omega } =8V
