Perpendicular Lines
Find the equation of the line passing through the point (2, -1) and perpendicular to the line 3y – 2x + 5 = O.
The given line can be written in slope-intercept form: y={\frac{2}{3}}x-{\frac{5}{3}}. Because this line has slope \frac{2}{3} , the perpendicular line will have
slope \frac{-3}{2} . Using the point-slope formula, you obtain y-(-1)={\frac{-3}{2}}{\big(}x-2{\big)}, or y={\frac{-3}{2}}x+2.
