Consider Figure 3.10.
Equating the pressure along XX, we have
Pressure below XX in the left limb = Pressure below XX in the right limb
or P_{A}+1.4× 1000 × 9.81×\frac{20}{100}+0.9h =P_{B}+ 1.1 ×1000 × 9.81×(\frac{20}{100}+h )
According to the problem, we have
P_{A}=P_{B}
Or 1.4×\frac{20}{100}+0.9h =1.1× (\frac{20}{100+h} )
Solving, we get
h = 0.3 m
or h = 30 cm
