Using the diagram in Fig. 3.58(a), noting that D_{1} and C_{1} carry equal currents when D_{1} is forward biased, and writing the current as I_{D1}=-C_{1}dV_{in}/dt, we construct the plot shown in Fig. 3.58(b). For 0 < t < t_{1}, D_{1} conducts and the peak current corresponds to the maximum slope of V_{in}, i.e., immediately after t = 0. From t = t_{1} to t = t_{3}, the diode remains off, repeating the same behavior in subsequent cycles.
