An n-channel enhancement MOSFET is biased using the voltage divider method as shown in Fig. 7.38. Given the threshold voltage, V_{T} = 3 V and k = 0.6 mA/V² , calculate the drain current I_{D}, V_{GS} and V_{DS}. Show that the device is operating in the active region.

=\frac{15×1}{3} V=5 V

I_{D} = K(V_{GS} – V_{T})^{2} = 0.6  mA/v^{2} (5–3)^{2}
or,                  I _{D} = 2.4  mA.
V_{DS} = V_{DD}– I_{ D}R_{D}=15– 2.4  mA ×1 kΩ = 15–2.4 =12.6  V
The condition for operation in active region is V_{DS} > (V_{GS} – V_{T}) = 5 – 3 = 2 V.
Since, V_{DS}=12.6 V, the operation is in the active region.
