A simple PSpice circuit that consists of a diode can be set up using the following steps:

  1. Go to “Place Part” (see Figure 2.63), under the “BREAKOUT” library, search for the part name “Dbreak.”
  2. Set up the PSpice schematic shown in Figure 8.84 and run the simulation analysis as “Bias Point” (see Figure 2.71).

Notice that there is a slight difference between the current flowing through the diode compared to its value calculated theoretically in Example 8.2. This is due to the forward bias resistor of the diode, R_f, which is nonzero. In Example 8.2, it was assumed to be zero.

b. R = 10 kΩ

Next, change the resistance, R1, to 10 kΩ and run the bias point analysis again. The PSpice schematic solution is shown in Figure 8.85. The small amount of current across the diode shows that the diode has been turned off.
