For sand the coefficient of subgrade reaction, [latex]k_{s 1}[/latex] for a long beam of width 0.3 m is the same as that for a square plate of size 0.3 x 0.3 m that is [latex]k_{s 1}=k_{s} \cdot k_{s}[/latex] now can be found from Eq. (14.6) as
