Explain the unusually short lifetime of the \Sigma^{0} relative to the other hyperons (baryons with nonzero strangeness numbers) shown in Table 14.4.
Strategy We should be able to explain the lifetimes by examining the conservation laws. All the lifetimes for the hy perons are on the order of 10^{-10} sexcept for the \Sigma^{0}, which has a lifetime of 7 \times 10^{-20} s. We suspect that something is different about the \Sigma^{0} because of its short lifetime.
