A bar having two different cross sectional areas is loaded by axial force as shown in Figure 2.15. Both parts of the bar have circular cross section. The diameter of parts AB and BC are 40 mm and 25 mm respectively. Calculate normal stresses in portion AB and BC of the bar.
As it is clear from Figure 2.15 that the portions AB and BC of the bar are in tension and tensile stresses will prevail in them.
