This pressure is sufficiently high to form sheet metals. Note, for instance, that in Example 2.5, the pressure required to expand a thin-walled spherical shell of a material similar to soft aluminum alloys is only 2.66 MPa. Also note that a process such as hydroforming (Section 7.5.3) has a maximum hydraulic pressure in the dome of about 100 MPa. Other rubber-pad forming processes utilize pressures ranging from about 10 to 50 MPa. Thus, the pressure obtained in this problem is sufficient for most sheet-forming processes.
